Banerjea Family’s Heritage in Homoeopathy: Legacy of 5 Generations
Five Generations of Dedicated Homoeopaths.
Possibly the longest serving Homoeopathic Family in the world.
Each generation passing the clinical acumen and wisdom to the next.
A legacy grounded in steadiness, meticulousness, and true healing.
For over a century, the Banerjea family has carried forward a rich and distinguished tradition of Classical Homeopathy—spanning five generations of dedicated homoeopaths, teachers and healers.
From the early foundations laid in Kolkata (India), where homoeopathy flourished as a cherished system of medicine, to the establishment of institutions that shaped modern practice.
This journey has always been guided by a deep commitment to Hahnemannian & Kentian principles and integration of Miasmatic Prescribing.
Each generation has not only preserved this knowledge but also refined it, combining clinical experience, intuition, and insight of case-based practical approach to treat the individual as a whole. From pioneering educators and master prescribers to globally respected lecturers and clinicians, the legacy continues to evolve while staying rooted in its core philosophy: simple, non-confusing, effective, methodical and logical, authentic homoeopathy.
Today, through institutions like Allen College of Homoeopathy in the United Kingdom, this heritage is shared worldwide, training practitioners with classical, time-tested methods with practical & clinical exposure, and a deep understanding of Materia Medica and Miasmatic Prescribing.
It is a living tradition of healing, insight and wisdom passed from one generation to the next, with the same unwavering belief: treat the root, not just the symptoms or disease.
Subrata’s great grandfather: Homoeopath
Born: 1846.
Died: 1906.
Late Kalipada Banerjee was born in a town near Calcutta in the year 1846. After completing his basic studies, he became interested in Homoeopathy and started learning homoeopathy of his own accord. At that time there were no homoeopathic colleges in Calcutta.
After acquiring knowledge in the homoeopathic science, he started practising in his native hometown. Gradually his reputation spread. At that time a German Homoeopath, named Dr. L. Salzer, M.D. was practising Homoeopathy in the city of Calcutta and had a good reputation.
Late Kalipada Banerjee consulted him for one of his difficult cases. Dr. Salzer was very impressed to see the prescription that had already been made by Kalipada Banerjee and opined to continue the same homoeopathic treatment.
Later, Dr. Salzer took him as his Clinical Assistant and also as an interpreter; as Dr. Salzer was not well acquainted with the local Bengali language, which hindered him a lot to take case histories.
Later Kalipada Banerjee started a Homoeopathic Chemist shop at Calcutta where Dr. Salzer attended as a Consultant Physician.

4th Generation: Subrata Kumar Banerjea, BHMS FFHom FHMA Homoeopathy Practitioner and Lecturer, Born: 6th September 1957. Born in Calcutta, in a family of Homoeopathic legends for the last 3 generations, he has had the utmost dedication to classical Homoeopathy, the rational art of healing. Dr. Subrata Kumar Banerjea successfully completed his schooling career in a serene divine atmosphere of Ramakrishna and Vivekananda's philosophy, from Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narendrapur and was creditably placed in the First Division. His medical academic accomplishments crowned him with many coveted distinctions and records at the University of Calcutta. He was the first Homoeopathic Graduate from Calcutta University after 5 years of intensive and integrated full-time degree curriculum with a record of securing honours marks (more than 75%) in nine subjects and became eligible for five University Gold Medals, having secured the highest marks in the entire University, in those subjects. He maintained the unbeaten record of securing first position throughout his medical academic career with some scholastic records at the University, securing 93% of marks in the final graduation examination of Materia Medica (oral part). His first printed publication appeared in 1981 when he was just 24 years of age, under the title of "Synoptic Memorizer of Materia Medica (two volumes)", introducing a unique mnemonical expedient in Materia Medica and attended a wide popularity; which was indicated by the fast exhaustion of the first edition of the book. Besides this, his Guide to Materia Medica, Pictorial Charts like "Mr. & Mrs. Psora Chart", Aggravation Chart, etc., and his latest book "Miasmatic Prescribing", have achieved immense popularity in the homoeopathic world. As a homoeopathy lecturer too, he is well known for making Materia Medica come to life and incorporating miasmatic theory in every case for clinical homoeopathy prescribing. Amongst his international lecture commitments, he has the proud privilege to lecture several times in almost all the countries of the world where Homoeopathy exists! Dr. Banerjea was also the first Indian and the first foreign Homoeopath, to be invited to lecture on Miasmatic Prescribing and its Philosophy at the Kiev Academy of Medical Sciences, Soviet Russia in April 1990 and also to Nigeria in 1992. He is the Director of Bengal Allen Medical Institute, and the International Teaching Division of the Bengal Allen Homoeopathic Medical College, which was founded by his Grandfather. The Bengal Allen Medical Institute has been running a Clinical Homeopathy Training Course for overseas Homoeopaths since 1986. These days, Dr. Subrata K. Banerjea only periodically visits India to run consultant clinics (where heavy pathology like advanced cases of Cancer; Nephrotic syndrome, Demyelinating disorders etc. are treated) . In India and many of the overseas countries where he has lectured, he was acclaimed as the only thorough teacher on Miasms and Comparative Materia Medica. A fourth-generation Homoeopathic practitioner and physician, where through every generation wisdom, intuition and clinical gems have been passed on from one to the other. His Philosophy adheres to the Classical homoeopathy techniques of his previous three generations, along with his classic ‘Look and Diagnose’ techniques to find the remedy from the gestures and mannerisms of the individual. He also places great emphasis on the peeling of miasmatic layers in today’s modern world, where suppression and one-sided diseases are rife. When he visits India, he tends to see a huge number of patients in a short amount of time. Therefore his combination of comparative materia medica skills coupled with profound intrusion and application of clinical homoeopathy tips leads to strong and successful prescriptions. Dr. Subrata K. Banerjea is currently the Principal of Allen College of Homoeopathy in Essex, England, established in 1998, alongside running a busy practice and playing an active role in the running of the Calcutta Mobile Clinic Charity.
